Inspection and maintenance of excavator resuming work

Abstract

The temperature rises and spring arrives, which is the time for the frequent use of excavators. However, excavators that have been stored for a winter need to undergo a series of inspections and maintenance before they can be started. The oil and some materials of the excavator may change after the shutdown of storage.

Therefore, before resuming work, it is very necessary to carry out a series of checks on the excavator. This article will be divided into parts inspection, oil inspection, heat dissipation inspection, power inspection, and operation inspection five parts of the excavator inspection in detail, and tell you the maintenance secrets of the excavator.

  1. Check components

Check whether the parts of the excavator are cracked, damaged, or loose. If they are wrong, replace and adjust them in time. The main parts to be checked are the forearm, bucket, cab, air filter element, counterweight, slewing support fastening bolt, and dust ring.

In addition, it is also necessary to check whether the walking deceleration device, guiding wheel, and driving wheel have oil leakage damage and fracture deformation. Engine pipes, fans, radiators, and other components are leaking oil, loose or blocked.

Finally, you also need to check that there is enough coolant in your tank and secondary tank.

  1. Oil inspection

Check the fuel tank to see if the amount of fuel is sufficient, and drain the oil-water separator at the bottom of the diesel tank to ensure that the fuel system of the diesel engine works normally. Check that the hydraulic tank level is within the specified range, and check whether the engine oil is deteriorated and missing.

  1. Check heat dissipation

Check your excavator radiator for anomalies such as blocked or damaged foreign objects. You need to increase the frequency of checking the radiator after returning to work to avoid the phenomenon of spring dust floss blocking the ventilation of the radiator leading to the high temperature of the engine.

  1. Power check

After all the above checks have been completed, you need to check your circuit for wear, aging, and cracking. Then power on your excavator to check if your battery is fully charged and test your various components. Check whether the indicator light, indicator, radio, air conditioner, rear camera, horn, etc. displayed on the monitor is normal, especially to observe whether the fault indicator light on the monitor is lit.

  1. Check the operation

If the above check is over, there is no problem, you only need to start the machine to preheat, and idle for 5-10 minutes to ensure that it is fully preheated. Before you start, you need to remove the inlet pipe of the turbocharger and add the appropriate amount of oil to ensure the lubrication of the turboshaft. After warm-up, you need to run a small stroke first. The reciprocating movement of the cylinder and the motor 10 times, and then the reciprocating movement of the full stroke, so that the temperature of the engine is uniformly raised. Adjust the tension of the rail chain on both sides of the excavator to ensure consistency. Then, wait for your hydraulic oil temperature to reach 30 degrees, and cycle all hydraulic functions several times, you can formally carry out your excavation work test to check whether the sealing parts have oil leakage and water leakage.

Maintenance tips for excavators

In addition to the daily maintenance and inspection, before the excavator is started, you also need to pay attention to the different parts that need to be inspected after each different hour of work.

  1. Maintenance check every 100 hours

If you want to extend the service life of your diesel engine, you can service your diesel engine after every 100 hours of operation. The parts you need to maintain and check are the boom and the boom cylinder head pin, the bucket rod connection pin and the bucket rod cylinder head pin, the bucket cylinder warhead pin and the cylinder rod end, the oil level in the rotary oil tank, etc.

  1. Maintenance check every 250 hours

At this time, you can check and maintain the belt tension of the excavator, including the fan belt, and the air conditioning compressor belt. Check the oil level inside the excavator transmission box and the electrolyte of the battery. When necessary, the oil in the engine bottom casing and the engine filter element need to be replaced.

  1. Maintenance check every 500 hours

After 500 hours of work, you need to replace the fuel filter and hydraulic filter of the excavator, clean the heat sink of the excavator, and replace the heat sink if necessary. Check and clean the internal and external air filters in the excavator air conditioning system, and replace the hydraulic oil vent filter.

  1. Maintenance check every 1000 hours

1000 hours is an important time point for the maintenance and inspection of the excavator, mainly to replace the oil in the excavator rotary oil tank and the transmission box, and to replace and inspect the fasteners of the turbocharger and the anti-corrosion filter element.

  1. Maintenance check every 2000 hours

As with the 1000-hour maintenance check, the turbocharger needs to be checked and cleaned, to check the valve clearance of the engine and the cleaning and maintenance of the hydraulic tank filter.

  1. Maintenance check every 4000 hours

When your excavator has accumulated 4,000 hours of operation, you need to check and maintain the pump and replace the hydraulic oil.

Conclusion

All in all, after a long period of shutdown and storage in the winter, inspection, and maintenance are an important step before resuming work, and must not be ignored. You need to maintain and inspect your excavator frequently to extend the service life of your excavator.
